Mr. McCarthy recognizes that the best opportunity for success depends on the mediator’s flexibility in approach. Unfortunately, a mediator who is comfortable with only one approach is often stymied in situations that do not respond to his or her singular style.
A successful mediator employs a variety of different approaches to the unique issues presented, often within a single mediation. Mr. McCarthy is comfortable using a facilitative or transformative approach to mediation, but is just as comfortable using a directive or evaluative approach when circumstances require. Mr. McCarthy’s hands-on experience and expertise allows him to evaluate the situation as it is happening and alter his approach to move the mediation forward to resolution.
